Yamato vs Iowa/Hood vs Bismarck/Japanese aircraft carriers vs American aircraft carriers?
Each ship is basically each others equal. You can't gauge a fight fairly based on mechanics. You have to look at leadership and crew. Which commands were better? Bismark sunk the Hood, you have your answer there. Not saying the Hood's crew was bad, but the germans were better that day. Also for Midway, how do you say luck played a part. Poor decisions by enemy commanders aren't necessarily lucky for the allies. A poor decision one minute could mean a tactical swing five minutes later in the battle. So the Japanese commanders making those decisions saw something that made them decide that. But as I said, it comes down to leadership and crews. Any idiot can pick up an M4 and shot it, but it takes the more experienced shooter to actually hit something.
