Mega bad tonsillitis?

Ok I have been in severe pain since Tuesday with tonsillitis :( every day it seems to get worse and worse. I have not been able to eat and am trying to drink plenty of water but it's so painful to swallow. I have been sucking on ice cubes and taking paracetamol every 4 hours to help with the pain. Im pretty sure it's tonsillitis as I do tend to get it once a year, and got White tonsils and very swollen and extremely difficult to swallow. Today they are so swollen that the dangly bit at the back of your throat is touching my tongue! It feels so nasty like there is something in the back of my throat. It's causing me to snore while I'm awake! I have rang the dr twice but there not classing it as an emergency and said to ride it out and I can't get an apt till Monday. Is there any thing strong I can get over the counter to help with the pain and swelling, or any other home remedies I could try? Is it normal to get slot worse before it gets better? As every day I hope to wake up and feel even just a little better but it seems to get worse and more painful every day :(
